Clionote is an Android app for turning voice recordings into notes, made by Simon Jones. This policy covers the Clionote app and the clionote.com website. We take privacy seriously and only use personal data in line with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

The app

The short version: there is no Clionote account and no Clionote server that receives your recordings or notes.

• Recordings and transcripts stay on your device. Speech-to-text runs on your phone, and your notes are stored in a folder you choose.
• We don't collect analytics or crash reports from the app, and it contains no advertising.
• AI summaries and chat are your choice. You can run them on your device with the built-in model. Or you can add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key, in which case the text of the notes you ask it to process is sent directly from your phone to that provider, under your account and their terms and privacy policy. It does not pass through us. Your API key is stored encrypted on your device.
• Live Dictate uses your phone's on-device speech recognition.
• Model downloads. The first time you use the speech and on-device AI models, the app downloads them from clionote.com. Like any website, our server can see the IP address and time of a download request.
• Permissions. The app asks for the microphone (to record and dictate), internet access (for model downloads and, if you choose it, cloud AI) and to keep the screen awake while dictating.
• Purchase. The app is bought through Google Play, which handles payment and your purchase details under Google's own privacy policy. We don't receive your payment information.

The website and updates list

If you sign up for updates on clionote.com, we may collect:

• Your email address
• Your name (optional, if provided)
• The date and time you signed up
• Whether you consented to receiving updates

Why we use it

We use this information only to send you occasional updates about Clionote, such as new features and releases, and to keep a record of your consent.

Website cookies and analytics

The website uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. It is switched off until you accept analytics in the cookie banner, and you can change your choice at any time. The app does not use it.

Legal basis

We rely on your consent for update emails and for analytics cookies, and we keep records of consent to support compliance with UK GDPR and PECR. If you do not give consent, we will not keep or use your information for those purposes.

How long we keep it

We keep your details only while you remain on the updates list. Unsubscribed or withdrawn records are removed according to our retention process.

Your rights

You have the right to:

• request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• request correction of inaccurate personal data
• withdraw consent at any time
• request deletion of your data, where lawful to do so

Security

The updates list is stored on a secure server with restricted access and kept to the minimum we need. We will not sell your personal data, and we will not use it for unrelated marketing.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Any material changes will be posted on this page.
